I am using this book for my immunology course for a clinical lab sciences program. This book does not explain things well at all. The paragraphs are composed of definitions defining more definitions and nothing is made clear. The organization doesn't make sense and is confusing. When it starts talking about values, it doesn't even explain what the values actually mean. The tables and graphs are not explained at all and are very unhelpful and even confusing/misleading sometimes. I think it's a horrible textbook for a 3000/4000 level immunology class. I had to constantly look up words and definitions because this book was just not clear at all.
SUMMARY: This book is poorly organized and does a horrendous job of explaining the subject matter to someone learning it for the first time. It is heavily technical, and does not explain anything so much as state a string of facts. The author often uses terms and concepts in one chapter that are not explained or defined until several chapters later. The few diagrams and charts included are just as complicated and confusing as the text, and are puzzles within themselves.It is the worst textbook I have ever used, and I think a class would be better with NO textbook rather than this one.REVIEW: I already owned the 3rd edition of this book, and was hugely disappointed when a new class I was taking required the 4th edition.What is true of the 3rd edition is true of the fourth:Like everyone else has said (except perhaps the first review, which was likely written by the author or her family) this book is poorly organized and hard to follow. I think it lacks a SINGLE sentence that is written in "plain English". Furthermore, rather than attempting build your knowledge stone by stone, it often uses terms and concepts in one chapter which are not defined or explained until several chapters later. It does not explain ANYTHING, ever, and simply states a long string of technically heavy facts which are nearly impossible to digest.I cannot convey to you how much I hated this book. If your class requires it, pray to god you have a professor good enough to make up for what this book lacks.
I don't know why this book is getting so many negative reviews. This is a Clinical Immunology book this means that you should have already taken a course in Immunology prior to reading this book. It doesn't make sense to just read this book without any previous Immunology course work, that might be why so many individuals have given it low marks. If you buy this book, make sure you are familiar with Immunology or make sure you have taken a course in Immunology because this pretty much goes into the clinical applications of Immunology and assumes you have been exposed to some Immunological topics in the past.I have noticed a mistake every now and then but overall this is a great book.
What is the point of owning a textbook if all the answers to the practice questions are wrong?
Had to have for school
I have taken 3 Immunology courses in my career and used many books. This by far the worst! I have more Immunology than doctors do and I couldn't understand it! I think it sucked out the knowledge that I did receive from previous courses out of my brain.
My teacher found a lot of errors in this book, but it was required for our course. Did not keep it after class ended.
The book itself was full of errors and discrepancies. The condition and service were both acceptable.
