It's easy to say that we should keep our dogs no matter what, but some of us can't afford to help a SIck animal. If Vets would charge on a sliding scale like many human clinics do ,maybe then we could get help for our fur friends. I notice the Author is a Lawyer,and an animal advocate, easy for him to say to keep your animals at any cost, I,m 72 yrs old and am terrified every time one of my animals gets sick. I rescued both my dog and cat from horrible lives and they,ve both been with me for yrs. but now we are all older and I dread the day I have to put one of them down because I can't afford to help them .
It will bring smiles and grins. It will bring the opposite. It will bring cuss words. It will bring so much love to your heart.It will be bring "why don't they understand me" to your heart. And yes...it will bring tears or at least watery eyes.I have never included a picture when asking to give my feelings on a pup book that I have read. My pup is named Trey. He is a border collie mix. My son and a rescue I have had just over 10 years ago. After all these years we are still discussing "who rescued who"?? Yep, he was in a shelter and on the "short list" (due to overly shyness) and me a single male that weeks before had to put down my love a Lab-mix of almost 13 years due to pain.
I finished this book this morning and can't stop thinking about it. It needed to be written and it needs to be read. This book is the reality for millions of dogs in our shelter system. It is also the reality of shelter staff and volunteers. It is emotional and heartbreaking, but also motivating and inspiring. If you have a friend, family member, or significant other that is involved in the animal welfare community, I challenge you to read this. It will allow you to experience their world and give you a deeper understanding of the difficult and emotionally challenging work they do. This is real life.
‘Chasing the Blue Sky’ is a book for those that if you don’t already have a connection with dogs, you will by the end of reading this story. I highly recommend to read it because, the elements of each of the characters development evolves with ease consistently from beginning to end. Along with the plot and the pace that kept me immersed, page after page, unwilling to put it down. The story itself has its major highs and major lows which left me unable to predict what would happen next. It is a lesson to be learned when looking to adopt a dog or any animal for that matter. If this book touches your heart as it did mine, research in your area animal shelters or sanctuaries with animals that are in need of finding their forever homes. Share this story, share their stories, and spread the word.
Chasing the Blue Sky led me to keep turning page after page. In spite of the happy times in the book, there is an awful amount of sadness while trying to chase the blue sky. I wanted to hurry over to our pound or the humane society and get several dogs in spite of having three rescues and another dying dog at home. Too many people are just not responsible keepers of their pets. Keep the tissues handy!
I knew I shouldn't read this book. I can't even watch Humane Society commercials. But every person that owns or is considering owning an animal needs to read this. This is the reality of pets in America. I cried through most of the book.
I worked in an animal shelter for almost ten years. This story is spot on, yet still made me cry. I'm going to go hug my shelter babies now. They are lucky ones.
I highly recommend reading this book. I read it during one long plane ride because I could not put it down. I loved the detailed descriptive writing because you really feel what the characters are feeling and understand what they are going through. This was a sad read, but it highlights some of the major problems facing animals and humans today. This book was also inspiring and reminded me to always think and act with compassion. Even as an animal advocate, I sometimes forget how little things, such as my tone or demeanor, could impact my furry friends. I have already passed this book along to my mom to read. Everyone needs to hear this message and understand that dogs and humans are not that different. We all need love, friendship, understanding, and hope.
