From School Library Journal
PreS-Gr 2—Born a ninja, Nina exerts her power from the start by karate chopping the doctor. Soft but detailed pen, ink, and watercolor illustrations play up the tongue-in-cheek text on every page, as independent Nina takes control of each situation: "At bedtime, she climbed her crib walls like smoke and vanished. And changing time was hand-to-hand combat. Nina did not like to be helped." This charming setup serves to launch readers and listeners ruthlessly into the story's real drama—Nina gets a sibling. He is a "Kung Fu Master," and here she meets her match. Where Nina has fought for independence, she observes that he seems to be fighting for everyone's attention and winning it. Lonely and very frustrated, she decides to approach the interloper directly, and ultimately the ninja and the Kung Fu Master join forces. One might worry for the parents of such a duo, but in an amusing twist, the last spread alleviates any concern. Clean design with ample white space to showcase the pictures' funny details pairs well with the punchy text, making a nice package for sharing aloud. VERDICT This spirited and stealthy new sibling story is one in which young readers can enjoy the exaggerated premise while their grown-ups can possibly glean some comfort.—Julie Roach, Cambridge Public Library, MA

It's well drawn. The hardback is sturdy. But as far as why I bought it, to introduce my 2.4 year old to the reality of his new little brother on the way, to me, it misses the mark. In fact, I don't even get how the kid gets over the new sibling so fast. Like, all she had to do was look at the new kid, and boom, it's over. To me I didn't get it. That being said, my kid cannot get enough of the book, like we read it three or four times in a row as a bedtime story, so it must be doing something right.I guess we'll see how effective it is when his little brother arrives this summer.
This is an excellent book about getting a new sibling and its short enough for my almost 3 year old to pay attention the whole time. Very cute book. I think the message is probably lost on my 3 year old but he enjoys the pictures, the ninjas and the fact that there's a baby and we have a baby. This might be my new go to for second time parent gifts.
Perfect new sibling book for an older kiddo. This helped my daughter (6) and was spot-on regarding the emotional adjustment and jealousy over attention the new baby gets. We read it a few weeks after the baby came home which seemed to be the right time --she could relate to the story by then.
I saw this book at the library and bought a copy for my niece who just got a new baby brother. She loves the book, and I thought it was a sweet story.
So adorable! The book is about a little girl and her new baby brother-- but it would be fantastic for any family with two kids of any gender.
Continually surprising & heart affirming--a knockout!
my 3 yrs old love this book and wants me to read to her over and over again.
so cute!
