About the Author
Caroline is the author of two previous books on Navajo Weaving: Weaving A Rug Navajo Style and Weaving A Miniature Navajo Style. She Lives in Southwest Colorado with her husbands, cats and other critters. She is a graduate of The University of Nevada, Reno and received her Master of Science in Clothing and Textiles from The University of Arizona. She devotes most of her time to the manufacture of C. Cactus Flower Miniature Looms but still finds time to travel extensively. She continues to teach others the art of weaving the Navajo way both in her studio and on the road. When she is not weaving or woodworking, Caroline is practicing her tai chi or yoga.

I love weaving books!! And I have lots to learn. So I decided to explore Navajo Weaving. Sadly, I found this book lacking. There was a page inserted upside down and backwards. Some of the instructions were very difficult - no impossible to understand. Terms used in explanations were unclear. I'll keep it definitely, but admittedly was a little disappointed.
Good book. I am not a weaver but wanted to learn about the how the rugs were made. Makes me appreciate the hard work involved in the art. Book arrived when promised and in perfect condition.
Caroline Spurgeons book 'Weaving The Navajo Way' is a keeper and a 5 Star book. I keep it next to my loom and refer to it often as I'm a beginner. From start to finish it is written I feel with the beginner in mind with words that are easy to follow and understand. With that being said both intermediate and advanced weavers could benefit by it also I feel.There are graphics of the various (how/to) steps in weaving in particular steps...such as adding new yarn, how to make the various stitches and so much more. Good examples of how to warp your loom and even how to make your own Navajo style loom, and much, much more. I really like that the book has the 'spiral binding' the book can lay flat with closing on itself.I was so enthused about Caroline's looms that I ordered her 'Table Loom' which is the largest loom she makes and will allow me to weave an 18" x 24" rug or wall hanging. The loom looks like a piece of furniture and Caroline has finished it beautifully.I highly recommend this book and also the wonderful C. I really like this book. It contained saddle cinch weaving, wedge weave, and outlining as additional advanced techniques to try. Its a fun book and has lots of suggestions for small weavings to practice different techniques. You do not need the loom that is featured in the book.
Trying to teach myself to weave a Navajo rug and could not find anything with nice clear pictures and a step-by-step description of how-to. THIS BOOK ROCKS!! I not only learned how to built the weaving frame, but learned how to warp it, how to weave on it, and what basic patterns could be used to make the shapes I wanted to make. Thank you very much. Kudos and Kudos.
This is the best weaving book I have found so far, and I have all of them! I will use this book for many years to come.
This books is just terrific. One of the most explained methods and easiest to follow that I have ever found. Now I am considering buying one of the Looms that this author has to offer. I know that they will also be great. Highly Recommend this Book.
