The author was born in Pau, France.He was raised in both San Franciscoand Santa Cruz, California. Bill has enjoyedsurfing, snorkeling, backpackingand museum viewing since hewas a teenager. Healso participated in several projectsand field surveys conducted by thePaleontology and Geology Department of the Museum of Northern Arizonawith William J. Breed as curator. In the early 1980s, Bill volunteered as a docent,then became a paid staff member at the Año Nuevo State Reserve, inSan Mateo County, California.Bill s love of nature, archaeology and geology, plus his skill as a photographer,brought excitement to the classroom where he taught social studies,science and history classes for over ten years.In 1984, he moved to Sacramento where he worked for California Canoeand Kayak.Currently, he is a naturalist/guide for Current Adventures, a kayakschool and trip outfitter located in Lotus, California.Bill is married to Louise Anne Cherry, the father of one 18-year-old sonPeter Karl, and a stepfather to Eric, a returned veteran from the second IraqiWar.
