Great book to give basic history of the American Indian peoples. I used this book in a class during college and have kept it and since used it elsewhere. Great book and a very interesting read!

Please read this book. The United States built an educational curriculum to prevent natives from claiming this land. Not everything in this book is correct, but I appreciate the fact it incorporated the Natives perspective.

What an informative textbook! I used it in my American Indian History class this semester and it was definitely a good resource.

I had a history class about the European colonists who made America one semester. The following semester, I had an anthropology course about Native Americans that used this book to tell the same story from the other point of view. Very interesting. If you are at all interested in cultural heritage, sociology, anthropology, colonial America, or Native Americans, then you NEED to read this book.

I used this for class at UNMLA in 2012. Very informative. Brings more truths to light about atrocities in Native American history.

Needed this book for a History of Native Americans class. Came in good condition. Was excellent in presentation of information. Not a complete story though. While this is a great document based history I feel like there is a certain element to the book that is lacking. The book is not complete without other books written by Native American authors.

This is one of the best history textbooks I have ever read, and trust me, I've read the entire thing. As a history minor, I needed a couple more American history classes and so I decided that since I did not know a lot about Native American history, it would be an interesting class to take. Calloway's book is extremely informative and interesting. The book is laid out in a direct manner and includes pictures and selections from documents and essays along with the regular text. In my class, we had two textbooks, three books from the native perspective, and two books discussing Native American leaders and this one was the best. I think that although it is a bit big (or maybe it just was for me since I had to read so many other books as well) it keeps your interest from the first page to the last. I would definitely recommend this to history teachers and to anyone who wishes to gain insight into the world of Native Americans.
