There is no other book on the AICW that even comes close to this. Plus when you buy the book you can download it for free to your kindle or ipad or whatever. There are many advantages to having this book. There is a FB ICW Cruising Group with all kinds of posts while they are cruising. Bob has links in updated information from other sites such as NOAA and Aqua Map and Active Captain. He has a blog of his own fleetwingblogspot.com The point being there is so much backup. It is not just a book. It is connected in so many ways, which especially for beginners is so comforting to know this information is solid. Thank you Bob for all your hard work
as a regular traveler on the ICW, was very impressed with the accuracy and thoroughness of this guide. I learned about several new spots along the ICW where I would like to stop and explore. I purchased this guide as a Kindle edition and still prefer my other ICW guides for use in the cockpit as we are traveling. However, I highly recommend this guide, particularly for those travelers with mast heights approaching 60 feet or so.
Bob is THE authority on cruising the Intra Coastal Waterway. His years of experience are invaluable, from preparing for the trip to actual route/waypoints through the most treacherous areas that can be downloaded into appropriate charting apps such as the fine Aquamap.Each year he adds new material - this year's guide includes detailed bridge clearance. I was lucky enough to be trailing about a month behind him heading north this year so I benefited from his most recent information which now has been rolled into his 2018 guide. The writing is crisp with over 200 links for more information. This will be the best $$$ you can spend if you are an ICW cruiser.
Great guide, but don't expect a bunch of Marina reviews. Its a real guide to the tricky parts of the ICW, not a where to go, where to stay guide.
This guide is clear, comprehensive, concise, and current. The authors’ recommendations are very good. The authors omit obvious, irrelevant information that clutter other cruising guides. This book is a model for other cruising guide writers. It has detailed information on avoiding hazards to navigation that other references do not mention.
